Frequently Asked Questions

What is presbyopia?

It's an age-related process that makes it more difficult for the natural lens inside your eye to focus at varying distances. The result is difficulty seeing up-close for activities like reading, sewing, or computer work. If you're already nearsighted and you wear glasses, the onset of presbyopia forces you to remove your glasses for up-close work, even if you never needed to do that before.

What are my options for dealing with presbyopia?

If you don't already wear glasses or contacts, you can start using reading glasses, or you can get bifocal glasses with near correction only. If you already wear glasses, you can get bifocals. If you're already wearing contacts, you can start using readers or bifocal glasses.

If you dislike the idea of starting to wear glasses or reading glasses, you're not alone! Consider joining the ranks of satisfied wearers of TANGENT STREAK contact lenses.

I already wear soft contacts. Can I get soft bifocal contacts?

Soft bifocal contacts are available, but many people are not happy with the vision they provide, so they're forced to use reading glasses as well. TANGENT STREAK contacts give sharper visual correction than progressive soft lenses, and are even effective for people with astigmatism.

What are GP contact lenses?

Contact lenses are fabricated from one of three types of material. Hard lenses are the original contacts, but they're pretty much obsolete. Soft lenses have been around since 1971. Fluorosilicone acrylate GP lenses are the newest technology and offer superior vision as well as all-day comfort after a short adaptation period. The Contact Lens Manufacturers Association can help you learn more about GP contact lenses.

What is monovision?

It's a fitting technique whereby one eye wears a contact lens for distance, and one for near. Many people were fitted with monovision before the development of modern bifocal contacts that provide great vision. Today there's no reason to put up with the dizziness, nausea, loss of depth perception, and lack of intermediate vision that are all associated with monovision.

Which TANGENT STREAK contact lens is right for me?

It depends on your prescription, your occupation and your hobbies. Your eye care professional can help you evaluate your options and make a recommendation. If you need a local eye doctor who fits TANGENT STREAK, please ask us for a referral.

Can I really have the best of all worlds?

Yes! TANGENT STREAK contact lenses provide great vision and help you look your best. Plus, you'll avoid the inconvenience of "readers" or the annoyance of bulky bifocal glasses.
